Chrysaora is the name given to the sea nettle jelly fish which is often seen on the western and eastern coasts of North America in both the Northeast Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. The body is usually seen with white spots and reddish-brown stripes and looks like a saucer, with a bell size of 6? to 8? in diameter. There are four oral arms on the dorsal side and all along the edge, the sea nettle jelly fish has tentacles that are slightly long.
Capsule-like nematocysts are present all along the tentacles and the edges of the tentacles have a barbed appearance. Inside the nematocysts are the poisons which can paralyze or kill the victim. When the tentacles come in contact with anything hard, then it presses on the tentacles which sets off the nematocysts and the strong poison gets released and inside the body of the prey. Thus it is able to get its food.
On coming in contact with any other large predator too, the sea nettle jelly fish uses the same tactics and paralyzes it. Smaller prey may also get killed by the toxins and on humans too the sting might create a mild to severe reaction. The sting of the sea nettle jelly fish results in a rash which burns at times. It could even set up an allergic reaction, but one must realize that the sea nettle jelly fish does not purposefully attack a human. It is up to us to stay clear of its habitat, as its sting is only part of its natural defense for survival purposes.
You can even choose to buy jellyfish to keep as pets in your fish tank, as many people are not happy any more with the common goldfish in their tanks. These are more exotic and you can bring them home from the oceans or the alternative would be to buy jellyfish from many online stores where there is a wide range of such pets to be found.
You can buy jellyfish of many exotic types on the online shops and here it is also possible to choose accessories or even set up your special aquarium. But be careful that the proper environment is provided for the jellyfish, before you set out to buy jellyfish.
