Why Energy Efficiency Makes Sense - HomeFix Weekly Review ...

A review of the HomeFix Corporation website reveals an obvious list of home improvement services that increase the energy efficiency of your home. So why is there so much hype about energy efficiency, and why should you care about making your home as energy efficient as possible?

Energy efficiency means that you get the most output, from the least amount of input. An inefficient method of cooling your home, for example, would be to run the air conditioner constantly while leaving the windows wide open. This is because the cool air would flow out faster than the air conditioner could produce it.

Energy efficiency has environmental benefits. Electricity has to be produced from something, and the longer the unit is powered on, the more resources need to be burned, meaning more waste. To review our previous example, the A/C is on, while the windows are open. Closing the windows improves efficiency, because more of the cooled air is trapped indoors, so the A/C does not need to run as often.

The problem with inefficient windows is that they are deceiving to the homeowner who thinks that just because the windows are closed means that their home is energy efficient. Inefficient windows can allow air flow around improperly installed or fitted frames or panes, and can transfer heat through the pane itself.

You don't have to be the most environmentally conscious person to understand the benefits of an energy efficient home. The longer you run the A/C, the more electricity you use, the more you pay out of pocket for that electricity.

While the cost of electricity continues to rise over time, if you decide to keep operating your home in an inefficient manner, you will continue to pay significantly more over time to get the same results. Often, if your home is inefficient, the results that you are getting will not be ideal. You may feel a cold draft in the wintertime, or your home will remain uncomfortably warm in the summer. Since most of your electricity usage goes toward heating or cooling your home, this means you are burning a significant amount of money every month, without even achieving the comfortable home that you want.

Improving the energy efficiency of your home means that you pay once?to increase your savings for life.
